T-JAC to keep T-embers alive

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TJAC), which met here on Friday, felt that it would not be possible to revive and intensify the movement for the separate state given the changed circumstances. However, it will organize small-scale protests to kept the T-fire alive till the 2014 elections.

The meeting was held on Friday in the backdrop of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu's Poru Bata, YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy's 48-hour fast in support of farmers in Armoor followed by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's Medak tour to launch many developmental schemes. Leaders who took part in the meeting included TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and TJAC chairman M Kodandaram Reddy.

The message that the TJAC leaders received from the various districts and several leaders of associations of government employees was that employees, workers, lawyers, students, and teachers are not in a mood to take part in a militant movement. Even KCR, who is known to make sensational announcements in such meetings, remained subdued all through the meeting.

In a marked departure from the previous movement, which rejected day-to-day issues in favour of Telangana state, the TJAC, from now onwards will take up issues like the power crisis, price-rise and farmers' plight along with the issues of handloom weavers.

Apart from KCR and Kodandaram, the two-hour meeting was attended by BJP senior leaders Bandaru Dattatreya, New Democrary leaders Suryam.

T-JAC leaders V Srinivas Goud, K Swamy Goud, K Devi Prasad and C Vittal along with the leaders of JACs from across the region.

In a significant decision, the leaders decided to exempt the teaching and student community from any future agitations till the academic year ended. The meeting also felt that it would not be fair to ask state government, RTC and Singareni colleries employees to participate again in the movement. Since no other organization is available to carry forward the movement, the meeting decided to work to strengthen the district branches of the political JAC.

"The meeting is trying to formulate an action plan on Saturday to demonstrate that the movement would be revived again," sources told TOI. According to sources, small-scale protests would be organized here and there to keep alive the T-fire. On record, JAC convener M Kodandaram said the leaders would meet again on Saturday to finalize the action plan for JACs in the district.

He said the meeting adopted two resolutions - lifting of all cases against students and employees and scrapping of teacher eligibility test.

Delay in Telangana formation, Gadkari accuses government of inefficiency

Slamming the Central Government’s inefficiency to form a separate Telangana state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari has promised the people of Andhra Pradesh that if his party came in power it would bring a bill in the Parliament to carve out a separate state.

Addressing a public meeting organised at Maktal in Mahabubnagar district on the occasion of flagging off a rally in support of the separate Telangana organised by Andhra Pradesh state unit chief G Kishan Reddy, Gadkari said: “I promise you that after our party comes in power, we will present a bill in the Parliament demanding autonomous status and independence to Telangana state and we will surely form an independent Telangana.”

Gadkari further said that the country would take a sigh of relief from corruption and scams, when Congress would be defeated in the coming assembly elections.

“Home Minister Chidambaram had announced about the formation of independent Telangana state but the Congress party, its chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have cheated the people of Telangana,” he added.

He also further promised if BJP is voted in power, the party would work towards utilizing the water of Krishna river to give relief to the drought struck Telangana district.

“If water comes in Krishna river and six are constructed on the Godavari river, then around one crore acre of land in the drought hit Telangana district will get a new life,” added Gadkari.

Pro-Telangana activists have stepped up their efforts for the four-decade-old demand of a separate state, which is sought to be carved out of the economically less developed parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The struggle gathered momentum last year after the UPA government accepted their demand in principle.

Several protests and shutdowns had brought Andhra Pradesh to a near halt in 2009 and 2010, as pro-Telangana activists persisted with their demand.

Telangana: TJAC to revive stir, spare students

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Joint Action Committee will spare students from the agitation which it wants to revive, keeping in mind the examinations.

The TJAC, which met here under the chairmanship of M Kodandaram on Friday, could not finalise any action plan and will meet again on Saturday.

TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and BJP leader B Dattatreya were among those who attended the meeting which discussed mainly TJAC's district committee reports.

Speaking to reporters later, Kodandaram accused the government of harassing students by not withdrawing a single police case registered during the movement since 2009.

The need to lift all cases was urgent in view of the APPSC examinations for recruitment for government jobs, he said.

The TJAC chairman also demanded cancellation of the Teachers Eligibility Test(TET) and to fill up all the vacancies in government schools only through the District Selection Committee (DSC).
